Obviously, I wasn't making enough money off this website. With these ads, I can not only get an income—I can get a complex income. That's an i-fold improvement over my income if I used real ads.

I made these between 2008 and 2010 in GIMP, except the last one which I put off until 2011. Initially I didn't post them on this site because by that time I didn't think they were that good, but I looked at them recently and decided they weren't that bad. (Maybe I was also worried people would think they were real? When I first made them I assumed everyone would know that the personal website of a high schooler wouldn't be likely to have real ads, but by the time I started this site it was more plausible that my site could have ads.)
I've changed two of them from what they originally were: The "visit my website" one I've updated to point to my current website (keeping the joke of an ad for the website you're already on, and hiding the URL to my older, less-public website that I originally posted these on). The "try our product!" one I changed the background to solid because I was worried about whether the original background (GIMP's maple leaves texture) would look too much like marijuana (I don't think I had any idea what marijuana looked when I first made it), and since I was already changing it, I decided to put the original title text into the image itself. (I also made it so the animations don't automatically start.)
A couple of them I was thinking, "Ha ha what if there was an ad for an ad blocker? No ad company would do that, since that would obviously go against their interests!" but since then I think I've seen real ads for ad blockers so I guess my intended joke doesn't really makes sense (anymore?). (I wonder if that's changed… my understanding now is that anyone with enough money just go to a website and buy an ad and everything's automated; my thought at the time would make more sense if getting an ad required some human at a major ad company to be involved, so I wonder if that was true at some point. It's also possible I just hadn't paid enough attention to ads at that point.)
The images seem a bit small for banner ads. I think I was using a GIMP preset size, so I blame that.
