Dreamt the night ending 2008-08-07
Yesterday I realized that it's my dream journal's seventeenth birthday today (although I've also written down occasional dreams before that), so here's the first dream in there.
There were five completely separate parts to this dream that I could remember. Parts 1 and/or 2 came last in the dream, but were supposed to be repeats of dreams I had had earlier that night. During those parts I had an idea that I knew what was going to happen, as if I'd seen it before. I'm fairly certain that Part 2 came soon after Part 1, but I don't remember the order of the rest of the parts.
I was supposed to be someone who wears green (either Louie from Huey, Dewey, Louie, or Luigi from Mario). There were a bunch of birds of one species (probably ducks; for part of the dream they were red, yellow, and white, and for another part of the dream they were all white), all of them young, and I noticed one who was colored slightly different from the rest. I went to her. Many older ducks called large groups of these younger ducks; when each group left, the bigger ducks left first, then the smaller ones, giving an impression of the ducks shrinking. The one that was colored slightly different (who was one of the bigger ones) did not leave. I sort of wondered why, but at the same time I had heard something about this duck. I thought the duck would follow me throughout the dream.
Then I was alone with this duck, and there was a lake with an alligator or crocodile. I was in the alligator/crocodile's mouth; then I talked to her and found out animals can talk.
I was at some weird thing that was supposed to be a programming competition (which I had refused to enter). There was a part that I don't really remember that was supposed to be on some sort of vehicle, either a boat or a plain, that people from the competition were supposed to have programmed.
Then there was a part inside where it was somewhere like a science museum I visited as a kid, and there was a model of some sort of vehicle (boat?) connected to gears in such a way that it would go up if the gears were correct and down if they weren't. (This was supposed to be a demonstration of something relating to the programming competition).
Then there was a part on a submarine, where people from the competition were supposed to program something about the submarine. It had windows along the side similar to airplane windows. One of the programs for this submarine - the only one I can remember, and one that was supposedly different from and better than the others - was one that automatically zoomed the camera in on interesting things. Those things could then be seen through the windows on the sides (which were apparently some sort of computer screen).
I was at a large gathering of people, possibly of my family. I started out in the basement with one group of people. There was something that I had put at my place - it may have been a piece of cake. Then, for some reason, I went upstairs (to the ground floor) to a different group of people. They had a different kind of cake there. I wanted both kinds, so I tried to go back down to the basement (this was after a while), but was informed that the people from the basement had all gone outside.
Once outside, there was someone ripping the pieces of paper that I had made for the covers of my binders (where I keep notes and homework and such for school) from the binders and replacing them with standard covers that said the year and possibly some other stuff. This was, in the dream, something organized (some sort of tradition, maybe) and expected; nevertheless, it was something I didn't want. I think at some point I told someone that I didn't want this.
A part that I don't really remember. I was listening to some sort of musical performance. It may have been in some sort of tent. The performers were in approximately four very long rows (so that an audience member on one side probably couldn't see a performer on the other); the audience was standing, also in a long shape. In the part that I remember, the trombonists were either standing up (or all the performers might have been standing) or being pointed to by a conductor.
I was a cat, or at least I appeared to be a cat to other people (I appeared as a human to myself). I was lying at the end of a bed of a couple (also it was sort of like I was in the audience of a movie or story). One or both of the people had had some experience that caused them to stop aging, and they were talking about it. There was a flash-forward where they were both old-looking, presumably after something had stopped whatever was stopping them from aging.
There was another part where a person got a heart attack from hearing a cat talk. When the cat in said part of the dream talked, it didn't actually sound like normal human speech; it sounded like a cat trying to make human sounds but failing to be very clear due to a difference in mouth structure (but the cat knew the language). There was also something in this part of the dream with a greeting card and a picture of a cat that had red on it (where black normally would have been; I think the red was intentional, for artistic effect). (I don't remember how this second part related to the first, except that it was not when the people were old. It could have been part of the events leading up to not aging, or it could have been right after the conversation about not aging, or it could have been unrelated. I think it was in a bedroom, though.)
