Piano music

Piano sheet-music of some of my compositions is available for download; you can also listen to MIDI's. LilyPond was used to create all of these files (although these pieces were originally written using other programs).

If your computer can't play MIDI files natively, try this (also you may need to use the non-https version of the page, although I don't think this is necessary anymore)

"Vultures at Sunset" (1999)

A piece about birds at sunset should be pretty... unless those birds are VULTURES!!

This was the first major piece that I wrote.

"Halloween" (1999)

I learn about Phrygian mode. I write piece in said mode. It sounds sort of Halloweeny.

"Dummm-Deedle-Dee-Deeee" (2002)

I came up with the first melody for this piece when I was sick. This was shortly after I first learned about ostinato bass.

"Liquidy"

Inspired by the shapes in lava lamps.

"Water" (2003)

An unusual piece in that the notes are not specified. Rather, general directions are given to the player, and in some places, there are staffless noteheads that show the general direction of where to go. Note that this means that the piece will be different every time it is played — i.e., it is aleatoric.

The beginning of the piece may be accompanied by a rainstick (and was in one performance of it).

"Piranha Plant River"/"River of Plants of Piranhas" (2015)

Music that I made for a video game level that I entered into a contest. A video of the level being played (not by me) is here

"EGGBGG" (2024)

Written for COMPOST #6, a music composition thing for Cohost, a social media site that's shutting down soon 😢, with the prompt "party mode". This piece is inspired by that website's mascot, Eggbug, a purplish egg-shaped bug.

I don't party enough to know if this sounds party-ish.
