The Invention of Color (newer version)

Based on an earlier version; this newer version was originally written for the translation into Lwaitel

One day, in Súiⱥcúil, Color Brown noticed that it was hard to tell things apart. There were outlines and shapes, but there was just one color, which they called White.

Color told this to Black Dark, who made some things not reflect light, and Black named those things after himself. He also made it so that there wouldn't be any light at night, since people were sleeping anyways. Gray noticed this and made it so that there were objects that were sort of black and sort of white, and lots of shades of that color, and called them light gray and dark gray.

Photography was invented shortly after that, and photographs used the new white, gray, and black that had been invented. Color, however, wanted there to be more, so he invented brown, and made dirt, wood, hair, and skin brown objects.

There was still something missing, though, so Color asked people to invent new "colors." Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Purple, Pink, and Magenta came, and many others too. Color got each of them to pick objects to be their color. He started with fruits and flowers, and got everyone to pick their favorite fruits and flowers. Green and Cyan were shy and didn't pick much, but everyone else got something.

Then it was time to pick colors for bigger things. Color got those who had the least fruits and flowers to go first. Cyan said that she was shy, so she liked just staying in the background, so that's what she did: the sky became cyan. Green, from Vegúil, liked plants a lot, so she made plants green. Blue, from Tydotsu, liked water a lot, so he made the ocean blue.

Now, Orange and Yellow were upset about this. They felt that Color was being unfair in giving Blue and Green such important colors, and they started to argue. Yellow, who was particularly greedy, shouted, "In the end, everything shall be my color!" Orange replied, "No, it shall be mine!" It became violent. Most of the others tried to get out of the way quickly, but Red got hurt badly, and was bleeding. Some people left the building entirely.

Color said, "Stop! Stop fighting. I will give you your wish. Everything shall be orange and yellow... in the end, that is." And so it was. At the end of the day, the sky and sun turn orange and yellow, and cast everything in yellow light. At the end of the year, the leaves turn yellow and orange. And when things are destroyed in a fire, the fire is orange and yellow. Yellow, in his greed, also took gold.

Color made blood and injuries red, in memory of what Red went through.

Then Color had everyone who was left stand in a line: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Purple. He made it so that when the weather conditions are just right, they will all appear in the sky.
